What to do When Your Child is Afraid of a Haircut?

When your kiddo has a mullet but that is better than chopped up locks… I know what it’s like to try to convince your little one that the clippers buzzing in their ear are “friendly” or the big metal scissors chomping so close to their scalp are “happy scissors.” The struggle is very real. I came across a cure for the phobia and I am sharing it in today’s post!

The secret is actually quite simple but it seems for decades it has not been uncovered. Pigtails and Crewcuts dove into the mind of the child and came up with a solution that will have your toddler begging for a haircut, well at least mine does now. The funny thing is, he wants to go back for another trim the day after he gets his haircut and for this, Pigtails and Crewcuts is WINNING!

The waiting area in this salon is unlike your everyday hair shop, it is totally kid friendly. As a matter of fact, the only thing made for adults are the seats. There are so many toys to keep your kiddos happily occupied until a car, I mean chair, opens up.

Speaking of cars, all of the styling chairs are actually designed to look like cars, firetrucks, or planes complete with a steering wheel to stimulate the imagination. If you have a very small child where a steering wheel doesn’t quite preoccupy them from the real task at hand, there are mini TVs at each station and treats stashed that are sure to do the trick!

I was amazed at the stylists ability to remain patient and gain my boy’s trust before doing the cut. My smallest was scared of the clippers and his stylist took her time to show it to him, turn it on and off, and place it on his shirt to show him it does not hurt.

Not only that, but their stylists were top-notch at kids cuts! Both of my boys looked super sharp once they were finished.

BEFORE AND AFTERS

When the cuts were done, my little guys got to choose a toy from the giant treasure chest. They were delighted!!!
