Recently I began shopping for a king sized mattress and pillows for my new bed and comfort was at the top of my list. When purchasing my last mattress, I was much younger and price was my deciding factor, yet after years of sore muscles and restless sleep, I decided to research the comfort factors and other mattress benefits available in the market. In this post, I will share my mattress buying guide, as well as the super unique mattress I decided to go with!
While all reviews are my own, this post is sponsored by The Futon Shop.
Mattress Buying Guide
- Understand Mattress Firmness.
- Soft: A soft mattress will fall anywhere between a 3 and 5 out of 10 on the firmness. A soft mattress will have a significant amount of hug and sinkage, usually the sinkage will dip down between 1.5 – 3 inches.
- Medium: A medium mattress is about a 6 – 7 out of 10 for firmness. This is the comfort level that I fall in. I prefer soft but need medium to reduce soreness.
- Firm: A firm mattress is about a 8 – 10 out of 10.(Ask your sales associate to show you each level of firmness and lie down them to decide which level you are most comfortable with.)
- Understand Mattress Size.
Yes there are two different types of king sized beds. Know which best fits your frame before purchasing.
Sizes Dimensions (in) Dimensions (cm) Full 54” X 75” 134.5cm X 190.5cm Queen 60” X 80” 152.5cm X 203.5cm King 76” X 80” 193cm X 203.5cm Cal King 72” X 84” 183cm X 213.5cm
- Check Return Policies.
Make sure the store offers a full refund or credit toward another mattress should the one you purchase not work out for you.
- Ask About Deals.
Yes, you can often haggle mattress pricing or at least take advantage of deals should you purchase the pillows that go with your new bed.
- Buying a Box Spring is NOT Necessary
As the mattress industry has evolved, box springs began to become incorporated into the mattress itself, making a box spring a non-essential component in a mattress line unless you just need a platform to raise the mattress up higher.
- Understand the Warranty.
