Are you thinking it might be time for a social media detox? As the name suggests, a social media cleanse involves distancing yourself from any and every social media platform. Whether it’s a 24-hour hiatus or completely deleting your accounts, many people are giving the cleanse a try. Research actually shows that taking a social media break improves mood, reduces stress, and increases productivity! There are so many things to do and explore when social media is put on the back burner. Start to live in the moment… there’s so much you don’t want to miss.
5 STEPS FOR A SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX:
- Learn Something New
- Revamp Your Mental State
- Create an Idea Board
- Reach out to Those You Love
Self-Love looks a lot different when social media is out of the picture. You deserve to be pampered and happy with who you are! Go get your nails done, get a massage, take a bubble bath, or have a “device-free” girl’s night with special friends and wine. Unfortunately, with social media comes comparison, so taking a break to love yourself will make all the difference.
Learn Something New
Take an online class. Now is the perfect time to learn a new skill or brush up an old one. You’d be surprised at all the classes that are out there – many of them are even free! Give your mind a social media rest and put it to work by learning something new. You’ll be so glad you did! By the way, Did you know I offer online classes? Head on over to my Confident Boss Academy to see what I am teaching! There is even a free class available.
Revamp on Your Mental State
Revamp your mental state by adding exercise, fitness, and meditation to your daily routine. Even just half an hour of being outside and walking will boost your mood immediately! Also, adding 1-2 extra hours of sleep by going to bed a little bit earlier during your social media detox can make you feel completely rejuvenated and mentally prepared to take on the days ahead.
Create an Idea Board
Create an idea board or vision board full of your future visions and goals! Add everything that comes to mind (without the help of social media along the way). What are your lifestyle aspirations? What do you want to achieve? Be as specific as you can be and don’t hold back. Collect magazines, tear out pictures, glue them on a poster board or pin them on a cork board in your office! Creating an idea board will motivate you to achieve those goals you’ve always wanted to reach.
Reach out to Those You Love
Last but not least… good ole communication. When was the last time you sent (or even heard the phrase) snail mail? Write a letter! Yes.. with an envelope and a stamp. After texting and sending DMs for so long, it may feel a bit unusual, but sending a letter to a friend or family member through the mail will do you some good. Pick up your phone and call your parents or a friend you haven’t seen in a while. Old fashioned communication is a much needed breath of fresh air and a huge part of social media detox.
