3 Ways to Soothe a Teething Baby

A teething baby can mean sleepless nights, a baby head cold, and a restless little human. As a momma of two, I have had a little practice on getting the teething era in check. Here are 3 ways to soothe a teething baby.

This little guy is in his major teething stage which means a few “not so bright” weeks for mommy and little guy. I learned with Jack a few ways that seemed to soothe and it looks like these tips are working with James as well!

3 Ways to Soothe a Teething Baby

  1. Cool Teething Toys in the Fridge

Cold toys seem to sooth better than ones that have been warmed. Cold makes molecules constrict which helps the skin to tighten around the nerves to reduce throbbing. Also, we all know how ice numbs pain. maybe even dropping your teething toy in an ice bucket before giving it to your babe for the really tough times.

  2. Find a Teething Toy with Ergonomic Design & Easy Cleaning

Of course all teething items are small enough for a baby to hold, but finding one with the right grips will ensure that your baby likes to use it. I love the Matchstick Monkey teething toy because James can easily hold it and carry it around with him.

The most important aspect when choosing a teething toy is to find one with bumps. This feature is important not only for massaging your babies gums, but for early toothbrush training, and to promote oral hygiene! Babies are attracted to items that appeal to their senses therefore teething toys with multiple textures keep them interested for longer periods of time. Oh, and it totally helps that the Matchstick Monkey can be tossed in the dishwasher!

  3. Swap to Harder Foods

First off, if you are going to do this, you MUST monitor your little one at all times to be sure that hard pieces do not break off and choke your baby. I normally choose a peeled and chilled cucumber or carrot. James loves the snack and it seems to help for a little while.

Obviously the right teething toy is a must for your diaper bag and if you want one that your little one will continue to reach for, check out the Matchstick Monkey line on Amazon.
