Best Vintage Inspired Fall Fashion

For those of you who have been reading since the beginning (4 years ago), you know that City Chic Living started off as a fashion blog to support my boutique. I have since evolved more into a lifestyle brand featuring not only fashion, but beauty, health, parenting, travel, and so much more. With this being said, I have moved into other genres and do not do a ton of fashion anymore except when there is a trend that I just can’t pass up or in my seasonal fashion shoots! The Fall season is upon us and it is time for my big seasonal fashion reveal. This fall I am embracing my inner vintage woman with 4 of my absolutely favorite local, national, and international brands!

The J. Peterman Company

I often feature The J. Peterman Company in my seasonal shoots because their fashions are so unique, fit perfectly, and of amazing quality! I felt that J. Peterman would be the perfect line for this shoot as their entire brand gives off an aura of the past. In the images below, I am featuring two very vintage inspired outfits from J. Peterman.

The 1940-50’s style polka-dotted, 1947 dress is certainly a classic print with a more modern cut. I love that the button down front allows for a sexy v-neck while the tea length is totally in this fall. The Lavish Suede Mary Jane keyhole pumps look perfect with both vintage and modern outfits. I am normally only a “Jackie O'” sunglasses style gal ut the round rose gold spectacles add a hint of 60’s class (think John Lennon). I love the weight of these glasses as they are not very thin. The metal is comfortably weighted to emulate the high quality look that they are.

The second J. Peterman outfit reminds me of the feminist era during the 20’s and 30’s when ladies would wear male inspired suit-wear. The Tuxedo Tie Front Blouse has the pin tucks like a man’s button up but the big bow that ties at the waist to add femininity. The Glamour High Waisted Pants are great for tunics or even blouses to tuck in as the top of the pant looks very stylish. I love the fluid, elegant silk twill fabric in these pants which add that feminine feel to a 1930’s men’s dress look. I added a pair of geo-shaped Triple Play earrings from my shop to give this look a modern flair.

Sugarplum Consignments

Sugarplum Consignments is my favorite local Memphis consignment shop, so any time I get the opportunity to work with the amazing owner, Melissa I jump! Her small business shop is full of amazing modern and vintage style fashions. While her store is not a vintage shop, she does carry many fabulous finds and vintage furs. I love taking my Sugarplum day fashions to an evening look with their distinct embellished sequined pieces or a fur piece. You can see this example with my outfit below. These are the same outfits, the only difference is that I added an embellished vest and stole.

LOOK 1:
Sweater tanks are all the rage this fall. I decided to feature this neutral sweater tank with a pair of dark washed jeans from Sugarplums. I fell in love with the Fossil saddle bag crossbody that I found at their shop as well and have been getting tons of use out of this amazing piece. I paired the entire look with a vintage Vera silk scarf

LOOK 2:
To take this look to evening wear I added a beautiful embellished Loft vest that I found at Sugarplums and an amazing vintage fur stole! Sugarplums Consignment carries very gently used, name brand merchandise at prices discounted up to 90% from the original price. You can definitely get a full look for under $50. If designer bags are your bag, and they certainly are mine, they also carry high end designer bags at prices up to 75% off.

Joanie Clothing

This UK brand started from a desire to create vintage-inspired style for the modern wardrobe, with fun, flirtation and femininity at heart. I just cannot get enough of their lovely slogan tops and sweaters. This Brunch Club Tee is super cute with jeans or a skirt! It is my favorite Sunday get up. Joanie also carries rock-a-billy, vintage style dresses too! The Fritha Breton Striped Dress that I am wearing below is so cute for the everyday vintage chic.

If you are a vintage style lover, be sure to check out Joanie Clothing for a little United Kingdom vintage inspiration. They ship to the US!

Fox + CatVintage

This is my favorite local Memphis vintage shop! The owner, Katie, really has a an eye for vintage style. Her shop carries garments hand picked by her from all eras! I chose a Fox + CatVintage classic 1980’s boss girl look below to feature as vintage workwear.

The 80’s gold chain belt paired with gold aviators and 1920’s style black leather doctor bag with gold clasp went perfectly with the vintage Maggy London cream silk pants and a sheer turtleneck top. The top looks super modern but the 80’s giveaway would be the built in shoulder pads. I must admit, this was my first fashion item with shoulder pads and I secretly wish they would come back!

The Ivory Closet

While my The Ivory Closet Memphis boutique, inventory tends to lean towards more modern, feminine pieces, my love for vintage has me sprinkling in styles that you would probably find in previous fashion eras. I love the 70’s style sweater paired with 80’s style distressed Lola pull on slimming Jeans, and 80’s style pointed pumps. I am a huge fan of art deco and edwardian style jewelry, and decided that this 20’s statement collar would really spice up this casual day look!

I really hope you enjoyed my 2018 fall vintage style fashions! Want to share with your friends? Feel free to do so via the pin-able image below!
