What Do Lip Fillers Feel Like?

This is a very common question asked by those who are interested in lip injections but are still sitting on the fence. In this post, I will share the answers to the questions I get the most about lip fillers.

What do lip fillers feel like?

When you are first injected, the fillers can feel hard or overblown, but if done correctly your lips will look beautiful and even. As for the “hard” feeling, you will be instructed to gently massage your lips in between your fingers for the the first 48 hours. Within two days, your lips will feel more natural and fuller. I personally cannot tell the difference in the way my lips feel after a few days, although the look is incredible.

Are Lip Fillers Harmful?

Here’s the gist, Juvederm lip fillers are made with hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance found in the body already, therefore you are not technically injecting your lips with anything that is not already found in the body. This ingredient is found in many beauty products because it can hold 1000 times it’s own weight in water making it very beneficial for hydrating products as well.

How much do lip fillers usually cost?

I have never paid more than $500 for a syringe of juvederm. I actually only use half a syringe and have the other half saved for use before it expires in 6 months. This meant $500 will last me an entire year! Many patients prefer the entire syringe at once making their budget for lip fillers closer to $1000 annually.

Can you feel lip fillers when kissing?

Because your lips will retain their natural texture and softness, your fillers can’t be felt by you or your partner when kissing!

Do Lip Fillers Hurt?

In my experience, the pain level depends on how you numb your lips before getting injections. I have tried numbing cream and injectable numbing solutions such as lidocaine, but the best way to prep your lips for less pain is good ole fashioned ice. Ice seriously cuts that pain level by 70%! I know it seems crazy but trust me!

What should you not do after lip injections?

Do not do hot yoga, a tanning bed, or any activity that involves extreme heat. Avoid excessive salt to prevent dehydration of the lips. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours!
