How to Prevent Lice

Want to know why these kiddos are doing a little bathtime celebration? Well, maybe perhaps they are thrilled with the fact that their momma has found a way to be more proactive when it comes to preventing head lice! In this post, I am going to tell you all about the ins and outs of lice and the product I found to help protect my kiddos. My boys haven’t had the bug but I remember when I was young and became infested once. It was horribly embarrassing and felt like forever to get rid of. If only I had a preventative then.

What Causes Head Lice?

Let’s get one thing straight, while no one wants head lice and understandably it can be quite embarrassing, it is NOT due to cleanliness. Head lice living in your kiddos hair is simply caused by close interaction with another individual who is infected. While they are not known to transmit diseases or to be dangerous, they do need HUMAN blood and therefore only infest our species. Obviously we do not consider them our friend and want to avoid these little critters at all cost!

Can Lice Go Away on Its Own?

Sometimes when there are not enough insects to maintain the infestation lice may dissipate on their own, however without treatment, they may persist for an indefinite period. Upon treating the infected person, the infestation will go away in about 2 weeks.

How do You Treat Your Home for Lice?

After treating your infected family members, treat your pillows, mattresses, bedding, and furniture with a product formulated for ridding a home of lice and it’s eggs. Be sure to soak all haricaire items in hot water (at least 130 degrees) for at least 15 minutes to kill these pesky bugs and their eggs.

Can Lice Live on Pillows?

Lice can live on any surface off of the human host for 24 hours but cannot live longer without blood from its host.
