What to Wear to an Election Party

Election time is coming up and this year I have gotten involved! Several of you asked about my outfit that I wore to a recent election party! In this post, I will share my favorite campaign casual anttire along with a few other tips and pointers for head turning election party looks!

You can never go wrong with a Little Black Dress! I really loved this knee length dress because it was the perfect mix of business and fun, which is what an election party is! Choose a solid color with fun cuts. You can see that the shoulders on this dress have a fun ruffle and the skirt is layered for extra edge.

If you plan on getting into the season of elections, you MUST get a vote hairpin. This hairpin always steals the show with tons of compliments and questions on where to find one. I got this one last year from Kitsch. Did just pop on over to their site and it looks like they do not have them any more but I did find these cute hair accessories on Etsy.

SHOP ETSY VOTE HAIR ACCESSORIES

I know that the hair clip I am wearing is no longer available, here is a little exclusive 15% discount code (ALEXANDRA15) to save on your very own VOTE Pin and anything else you find over on the Kitsch website!

If you choose a solid color for an outfit, spice up your look with some fun, funky accessories. I decided to go with a mixed metal look. My spiky, silver rhinestone pumps really worked perfectly with my gold thumbtack clutch.

Election Party Fashion Guidelines

What you should wear to an election party can depend on the formality of the event and your personal style. Here are some general guidelines to help you decide what to wear:

Dress Code

Consider the dress code specified for the party, if there is one. Election parties can range from casual gatherings to more formal events, so knowing the dress code is essential. If you have any questions about the code, consider the venue. If it is an upscale establishment, opt for cocktail. If the venue is more laid back, opt for campaign casual.

Themed Attire

Some election parties may have a theme or encourage attendees to wear clothing related to the election, such as political t-shirts, pins, or even costumes related to the candidates or political figures. Before wearing party specific attire, confirm that this party will not have a mix of attendees from both sides of the aisle. We want to keep confrontation to a minimal, IT”S A PARTY Y’ALL!

Business Casual

If the event is somewhat formal or you’re uncertain about the dress code, a safe choice is business casual attire. This might include slacks or a skirt with a nice blouse or a button-up shirt. I personally love a relaxed fit blazer and pant suit with a patriotic tee shirt.

Casual Wear

For more casual election parties, you can opt for jeans or casual pants with a comfortable t-shirt, sweater, or a casual dress. Consider the climate and location of the event when selecting your outfit.

Red, White, and Blue

Wearing patriotic colors like red, white, and blue can be a fitting choice for an election party, as these colors are associated with the American flag and national identity. We are all American and should be proud!

Weather Considerations

Take the weather into account. If the party is outdoors or in a colder season, consider bringing a jacket or layers to stay warm.

Accessories

You can add a touch of election spirit with accessories like political buttons, hats, or scarves.

Respect and Neutrality

Keep in mind that an election party can be a mixed gathering of people with various political affiliations. If you want to avoid conflict, consider dressing in a way that doesn’t overly promote a specific candidate or party.

Personal Style

Ultimately, choose an outfit that reflects your personal style and comfort while adhering to any event-specific guidelines. It’s important to feel confident and at ease in what you wear.

Comfortable Footwear

Regardless of the dress code, make sure to wear comfortable shoes, especially if you expect to be on your feet for a while. If you aren’t a fan of pumps, or will be on your feet throughout the event hosting the election party, there are tons of incredible flat brands. Kurt Geiger is my favorite brand when it comes to non-heel shoes!

Remember that the most important thing is to participate in the democratic process, engage in discussions, and respect the diverse viewpoints of others, regardless of your clothing choices. Happy partying!
