Wilson Wine Dinners Date Night

Our favorite monthly date night is the Wilson, Arkansas monthly themed wine dinners. With just a 50 minute drive from Memphis’ these lovely dinners are held in the 1920’s quaint town of Wilson and each and every one has been truly magical.

This month’s wine dinner was a progressive experience of Christmas dinners and wines from all around the world. We began our feast in England with a Christmas reading of The Christmas Carol while enjoying welsh rarebit and a delicious Ridgeview Fizrovia Rose Sparkling Wine.

I have never experienced Rarebit and I must say, it is my new favorite snack. Next we boarded a bus and headed on over to the Wilson Cooperative Club for a taste of Austria. Here we tried a hearty Knodel Bread Dumpling and Wimmer Gruner Veltliner. The club was originally the old Wilson schoolhouse and was decorated so lovely with traditional christmas decor. It truly felt like we stepped back into time.

Now on to France at The Delta School, which looks just like Hogwarts! There was a thorough array of Pate de Champagne & Artisan Cheese with Albert Bichot Bourgogne while perusing the school. The school is truly magical and we are seriously considering sending the kiddos there as they will come pick up the boy from Memphis and bus them every day! There was also live caroling from Rhonda Hodges.

We love Italian dishes and were thrilled to stop by The Grange for Fresh Tagliatelle Venison Ragu and Lamole Chianti Riserva. I have never tasted venison in a pasta dish and I must say, it was a delightful treat! Even more to set the atmosphere, Candace Hawkins performed Italian Christmas songs on her keyboard!

Feliz Navidad and back to the Wilson Theatre for a Spanish delight! Before dessert, we enjoyed olive tapenade on crostini, tortilla de potatoes with chorizo and Bodegas Montecillo Crianza and my favorite performance of the evening by Patrick Adams. By the end of his set, we were left wishing there was one more song!

Now for the magical ending! Caroling by candlelight in the town square with German Black Forest Cake and Clean Slate Riesling. Everyone gathered to listen to the beautiful voices of all of the musicians that performed through the evening and to my surprise, the guests started chiming in and singing together under the stars. It brought tears to my eyes and filled my heart. Since 2020 has been such a trying and tough year, coming together for a nostalgic Christmas moment was just extraordinary.
